Pick-up Lines

These are incredibly cheesy and lame but also amusing, so I decided to share some Harry Potter based pick-up lines.

  • If you were a Dementor, I'd become a criminal just to get your kiss.
  • I know we're not in Professor Flitwick's class, but you still are charming.
  • My love for you burns like a dying phoenix.
  • Being without you is like being afflicted with the Cruciatus Curse.
  • If I were to look into the Mirror of Erised, I'd see the two of us together.
  • Did you survive the Avada Kedavra curse? Because you're drop dead gorgeous.
  • Your smile is like Expelliarmus. Simple but disarming.
  • You must be magical, because I've fallen under your spell.
  • Are you using the Confundus charm or are you just naturally mind blowing?
  • You can have the portkey to my heart.
These make me gag slightly...

The movies

I was looking around for some more stuff to blog about, and I found someone who seemed to strongly dislike what Warner Brothers did with the movies. The more I read of it, the madder I got. I don't know about you, but I tend to get extremely defensive over anything bad said about anything Harry Potter related. He went through and pretty much said that the movies were horrible and didn't capture any aspects that were in the book. I think that is the most untrue thing that has ever been stated! The movies are, in my opinion, the best movies that are about books. I mean you can only fit so much in a two hour movie, and I think that with that limit they do a wonderful job of capturing the essence of the world of Harry Potter. For those who have read the series, it is great to have to stories brought to life. And I'm glad that those who don't read get to experience them as well. My family and I'm sure millions of others have grown up watching them with their families. I know I was rushing to the theaters once the movie came out, and I have every movie and DVD. Yes, there are some things that aren't perfect, but I wouldn't change any of it.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

This Summer I am going Universal Studios in Florida to visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter!!!! I am so unbelievable excited! It is a theme park based on the world of Harry Potter. You can go to the Three Broomsticks to sip on some butterbeer, or take a ride on the Dragon Challenge, the Flight of the Hippogriff, or Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. If you are in need of a sneakoscope or a snitch, you can shop at Dervish and Banges. You can peek inside Filch's Emporium of Confiscated Goods to see authentic movie props and buy souvenirs. Of course you must go to Honeydukes! The name speaks for itself; it is stocked full of all the sweets you have and have not heard of. I'm definitely going to Olivander's to choose my perfect wand or should I say let the wand choose me, and when I get tired, I can take a break in the Owl Post. Here, you are given many benches to sit on while you enjoy sights and sounds of peaceful owls surrounding you. When you're done resting and are ready for a laugh, be sure to venture into Zonko's for some novelty items such as extendable ears. This sounds like the greatest place in the world!

How do you like the book covers?

For those of you don't like change, this might upset you. Scholastic is releasing brand new book covers for the Harry Potter series. Here is the first one. I'm not quite sure how I feel about them...

Coincidences...I think not

I found out a cool fact while re-reading the Chamber of Secrets and this is probably old news to most, but I didn't realize it. It's amazing how much thought and detail went into these books and how everything ties together later on.

In the Chamber of Secrets, Harry got called into Filch's office and Peeves dropped something large and it distracts Filch. As it turns out, Peeves dropped the Vanishing Cabinet, which we find out more about in the Half-Blood Prince. That is the reason why it is broken in the sixth book.

Crazy Fans

To my knowledge, there has never been a book/movie series that has stirred as many crazy fanatics as Harry Potter. Here are a few looney cases:

1. A fan offers to adopt Tom Felton, the actor who plays Draco Malfoy.

2. The Snowy Owl, which is the species of Harry's owl Hedwig, has become endangered because of fans wanting to have a real "Hedwig" in their home, and toys just won't do it for them.

3. There is now a type of music called Wizard Rock, and it is music that revolves around the world of Harry Potter. I am assuming it is much like the band who played at the Yule Ball in the fourth Harry Potter movie. Some of the names of these bands include: The Sirius Black Attack, The Butterbeer Experience, The Azkaban Work-Release Program, The Band Who Must Not Be Named, and many more.

4. A boy in France didn't want to wait for the translation of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, so he translated the first three chapters word for word. Now this is illegal to do in France.

5. And of course, the tattoos:

I call myself a Harry Potter Fan, but I wouldn't go so far as to tattoo myself with something Harry Potter related.

My favorite characters

I'm not sure why y'all would really care about my favorite characters, but here they are anyway.

Note: These are in no particular order.

Severus Snape
He is seriously misunderstood, and when it comes down to it, Snape has a good heart.

Neville Longbottom
He started out as a sort of goofy kid who seemed as though he wasn't very skilled in wizardry,            but gradually throughout the years, he became a hero.

Fred and George Weasley
What can I say about them! They are geniuses! I loved how even when all the shops were closing at Diagon Alley, Weasley's Wizard Wheezes still thrived. They offered hope and joy in a time of darkness.

Albus Dumbledore
Duh! He's everyone's favorite! He is the wisest person in the fictional world, and the things he says are quoted many times by me.

Hermione Granger
Harry and Ron would not be able to do hardly anything without Hermione. She makes their trio complete. Plus, I have been told I look slightly like her.

Dobby
Who doesn't love Dobby! When he died I was devestated. His loyality is unyielding.

8 Harry Potter Fun Facts

1. Ron Weasley’s character originally swore a lot, but Rowling’s publisher wouldn’t let her use that sort of language because it would’ve been inappropriate for young readers.

2. Rowling’s publisher suggested she use initials rather than her real name, “Joanne Rowling,” in order to appeal to male readers. She chose J.K., borrowing the “K” from her grandmother’s name, Kathleen. However, neither “Kathleen” nor “K” is part of her legal name.

3. Rupert Grint dressed up like his female drama teacher and rapped about Ron Weasley for his audition tape. His rap began, “Hello, my name is Rupert Grint, I hope you don’t think I stink.”

4. Contrary to popular belief, the ‘t’ at the end of Voldemort is silent. The name comes from the French words meaning “flight of death.”

5. J.K. Rowling is the first person to become a billionaire (U.S. dollars) by writing books.

6. During the filming of the kissing scene between the horcrux versions of Harry and Hermione in the final film, Rupert Grint was removed from the set for laughing too much.

7. M.O. McGonagall is listed on one of the Quidditch trophies in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Could Professor McGonagall have been a renowned Quidditch player back in the day? It would certainly explain her enthusiasm for the sport.

8. In order to become acquainted with the films’ three main stars, director Alfonso Cuaron had each of them write an essay about their characters. True to their characters, Emma Watson wrote a 16-page essay, Daniel Radcliffe wrote a simple, one-page paper, and Rupert Grint never even turned his in.

Memorable Quotes

Sometimes we must choose between what is right and what is easy.

For in dreams we enter a world that is entirely our own. Let them swim n the deepest oceans and or glide over the highest clouds

Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.

It is important to fight and fight again, and keep fighting, for only then can evil be kept at bay though never quite eradicated.

It is our choices, Harry that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities

We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.

Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry but why on earth should that mean that is not real?

It matters not what someone was born, but what they grow to be

          -Albus Dumbledore

What's life without a little risk?

We've all got both light and dark inside of us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That's who we really are.

          -Sirius Black

You sort of start thinking anything's possible if you've got enough nerve.

          -Ginny Weasley

Pottermore

If you are a Harry Potter fan go out and get a Pottermore account. I'm not going to write a long review about it cause you can go look those up, but it is definitely a must for those with a slight (or major) Harry Potter obsession. I'm not saying that it's not for those who have just watched the movies, but Pottermore is mainly about giving you information that J.K Rowling did not put in the books of her reasoning behind why she made things the way they are. Or, that's what I most appreciate about it. It feels as though you are an actual student at Hogwarts, going through the same things that went on during the books.

The best part about Pottermore is you take a personality test to get you wand length, core and wood. Then, you take a sorting quiz that sorts you into your house. Both were generated by J.K. Rowling herself, so you know its the best way to find out your type of wand and house you would be sorted in.

Snape: Evil or good....or both

Warning: Do not read if you have not finished the books because this gives away information.

In my personal opinion, I believe that Snape is a little bit of both. He may be malicious and hateful towards Harry, but that was because Snape was bullied by James Potter and James took Lily from him. Snape was also constantly protecting Harry every year, and Dumbledore had no doubt in his mind that Snape was loyal to him. Snape showed the utmost bravery in the Half Blood Prince when he killed Dumbledore because as you know, if you have read all the books, Dumbledore had to convince Snape to kill him. When it came for the time for Snape to actually kill Dumbledore, Snape almost couldn't go through with it, and Dumbledore had to beg for Snape to do it (though at the time it seemed Dumbledore was begging for his life). There is the fact that Snape was a Death Eater. Snape was sent to Hogwarts by Voldemort to be a sort of double agent, and once Snape was at Hogwarts he became a double agent for Dumbledore. You didn't really know for sure whether or not Snape was good until the last book when Snape gave Harry his memories. Then, it was shown that although Snape may have both good and evil, his love for Lily was the most important thing. Dumbledore always said the most important thing was love.

“But this is touching, Severus,” said Dumbledore seriously. “Have you grown to care for the boy, after all?”
“For him?” shouted Snape. “Expecto Patronum!”
From the tip of his wand burst the silver doe. She landed on the office floor, bounded once across the office, and soared out of the window. Dumbledore watched her fly away, and as her silvery glow faded he turned back to Snape, and his eyes were full of tears.
“After all this time?”
“Always,” said Snape.

Could Neville have been "The Chosen One"?

Those who have read the Harry Potter series know the controversy over Neville as "The Chosen One".
I've always wondered how exactly that could be, so I looked into it and came up with a really great article (http://www.beyondhogwarts.com/harry-potter/articles/neville-longbottom-the-other-chosen-one.html) where many interesting theories are made. I was going to write about my opinions and ideas, but honestly, this one by David Haber is better than any one I could write. I highly recommend you read this article. What he says really gets you thinking.

I don't agree about the part where he links Neville with Pettigrew.
